Try Speed Skating
Come try speed skating, one of Canada’s most successful sports at the Olympics!
Programs are mainly run at the Olympic Oval Short Track at the University of Calgary, the Fastest Ice In The World™.
With the anticipated relaxations coming in Stage 3, we will be resuming Try Speed Skating sessions. Encourage your friends to try it out! There will be two groups on each day.
Participants (all ages 5 and above) must already be comfortable with the basics of skating, i.e. push & glide and getting back up unassisted, and be able to follow group instructions.
This program is free and includes skate rental, ice time, and certified instructors.
Group 1 (younger kids 10 & under)
1:00 PM: participants arrive, get fitted for skates
1:20 PM: short briefing to parents & skaters
1:30 PM: on ice
2:15 PM: exit ice, short debrief with parents, return skates
Group 2 (older kids / more experienced skaters 10 & over)
2:45 PM: participants arrive, get fitted for skates
3:05 PM: short briefing to parents & skaters
3:15 PM: on ice
4:00 PM: exit ice, short debrief with parents, return skates
What Should I Bring/Wear?
A helmet (hockey, snowboarding, ski)
Cycling helmets NOT allowed
Long sleeve shirt
Highly recommended are:
Knee pads (soft, volleyball)
Shin pads (hard, soccer)
Neck guard with bib (hockey)
