June Update from the Board

Assistant Technical Director position: Congratulations to Marika Nadal who has been selected as the Assistant Technical Director. Marika will work closely with Debby Fisher as part of the CSSA succession plan.

Oval ice is back!: The new ice surfaces will be officially unveiled June 11. The Oval is preparing to welcome back CSSA on June 14 as part of Stage 2 of the re-opening plans.  It will look and feel similar to when we were training in March (masks in and out of the Oval, self-assessment before each practice, no masks during practice, coaches must wear masks at all times, etc.). Detailed instructions will be forwarded by the coaches.  Stage 3 which is hopefully around July 1st, will bring about further relaxations.  Details are still being worked out with the Oval.

Spring/Summer Program refunds:  For those that registered for the full season or for May & June training (prior to the price reduction due to delay in Oval re-opening), refunds will be processed in late June or early July.  Thank you for your patience!

Registration for Fall & Winter Programs:  We will be using a new registration program, called IceReg.  This will be the standard registration program for all speed skating clubs across Canada, as mandated by Speed Skating Canada.  Registration will open in early July and detailed instructions on the process will be coming in a few weeks time.

Update from the Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association (AASSA): New name & new logo!  It looks quite sharp.  The organization will now be known as Speed Skating Alberta (SSA), to be more in line with the national governing body, Speed Skating Canada (SSC).  SSA recently voted in its new Board of Directors for 2021-22:

Special General Meeting (SGM): A reminder that the SGM will be held on Monday June 21 at 7:30 PM via zoom.  To register for the SGM, please e-mail Isabella Salazar at Isabella.salazar@calgaryspeedskating.ca or Josie Daub at president@calgaryspeedskating.ca on or before June 18, 2021.

For those who have proxies, please e-mail your proxies (up to a maximum of two for a total of 3 votes per our current by-laws) to Isabella Salazar (Isabella.salazar@calgaryspeedskating.ca) before 1:30 PM on the meeting day, so these can be verified prior to the start of the meeting.

Marketing: The CSSA banner has been put up on northbound Crowchild Trail just before the Bow River bridge.  We will also be doing some Facebook & Instagram advertising over the summer.

Try Speed Skating sessions: With the anticipated relaxations coming in Stage 3, we will be resuming Try Speed Skating sessions in July & August.  Encourage your friends to try it out!
