August 17:  Try Speed Skating at the Oval from 1-2 PM

August 23: Last day of Spring/Summer program

August 23-24: Summer Classic long track competition for 13+

August 24: Single distance #1 short track competition for 14+, time standards required

August 27: Skate rental/parking pass pick-up/marketplace in North Storage area

September 3: Start of the fall/winter programs at the Oval

Sunday September 8: 7:00-7:45 PM Zoom presentation to families with skaters in 11-13 Youth age group and 13-14 Neo-Junior age group.  8:00 – 8:45 PM: Zoom presentation to all new families, intro to the sport, safety equipment, competitions, etc. 

October 1: Start of the fall/winter programs at Seton YMCA

Early October: Zoom presentation on how competitions work

·      Parking Passes

Parking passes are available for sale at a cost of $310 as the University has increased prices.  Passes are valid for lots 10 or 11 before 8 AM and after 4 PM weekdays as well as anytime on the weekends:   https://icereg.ca/#!/events/parking-passes-skate-rental-drop-ins-other-2024-25   Parking passes are worthwhile for skaters coming 2x weekly or more. 

·      Skate Rentals

Skate rentals are INCLUDED in all Youth Group prices.  Skate rentals only need to be purchased for skaters in Groups A & B and adults, who wish to rent CSSA short-track skates: https://icereg.ca/#!/events/parking-passes-skate-rental-drop-ins-other-2024-25

·      Skate Rental, Parking Pass Pick-Up & Marketplace on Tuesday August 27

Skate rental and parking pass pick-up will be on Tuesday August 27 between 5:30 & 7:30 PM at the Oval North Storage area.  All CSSA members – past & present – are also welcome to sell outgrown equipment to other members at the marketplace located on the track outside North Storage (tables & chairs will be provided).  To reduce crowding, time slots have been organized based on the skater’s last name.  Try as much as possible to come during time allotted.

o   5:30 – 6:00: Last names starting with A to D

o   6:00 – 6:30: Last names starting with E to L

o   6:30 – 7:00: Last names starting with M to R

o   7:00 – 7:30: Last names starting with S to Z

·      Speed Skating Alberta (SSA) Update 

The following were elected to the SSA Board of Directors:

Antonio Faiola, President

Rachel Miller, Vice-President

Andrew Cross will co-chair the Officials Development Committee (ODC).

Tammy Currie and Greg Ogilvie will co-chair the Skater Development Committee (SDC) Directors at large: Sheyla Burgos-Khan, Cherise Eaves, Sylvie Tanguay

The Board will focus on the Awards Committee which will be chaired by Cherise Eaves. She will be supported by Sylvie Tanguay, Greg Ogilvie, and Sheyla Burgos-Khan with a focus on reviewing the current awards categories (and new categories). 

·      Level 2 Referee Clinic – Sept. 27-28 at the Calgary Olympic Oval Boardroom

Speed Skate Alberta is excited to announce a Level 2 Speed Skating Referee Clinic, perfect for those looking to advance their officiating skills and gain a deeper understanding of speed skating rules and regulations.

Referee Instructors:  Jacky Shoebridge – ISU Int W ST and Rhona Hathaway – ISU LT
Cost: $50 + GST per registrant

Registration Deadline: September 20th at 5 pm

Who Should Attend:

· Existing Level 1 referees looking to upgrade their certification

· Officials with experience in other skating sports interested in speed skating

· Coaches and former athletes with a deep interest in officiating
