April Update from the Board

Youth Spring/Summer Program: Programs will start the week of May 10th with strength training (Oval), dryland (Terre des Jeunes school) and in-line skating (Bowness Park). In June, we will introduce on-ice skating once the Oval re-opens. The program will be flexible, allowing skaters to participate for 1, 2 months or the whole summer until the end of August. It promises to be fun and engaging!  An information session will be held on Wednesday April 21 at 7:00 PM on zoom. To join Zoom Meeting (Meeting ID: 999 7804 4503. Passcode: spring2021)

Adult Spring/Summer Program: Adult skaters interested in training over the Spring and Summer, should contact Guy Bushell at Britfit@shaw.ca for details on programs which begin on May 1st.

Program refunds: The Board has approved 10% refunds for the skaters that continued with the program until the end of March. Refunds will be processed in April. The Board’s decision was based on weighing numerous factors, including the higher costs incurred for ice at Seton, WinSport and Redwood Meadows, fixed costs such as membership, insurance, the Technical Director and Office Manager and lower membership revenues due to COVID and the Oval ice closure.

Update from the Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association (AASSA): After being vacant for 15 months, AASSA has hired a new Technical Director: Lorelei St-Rose. The priorities of the Technical Director will be connecting clubs, coaches, and sport partners across the province, while overseeing sport development from the grassroots to the provincial team.  AASSA will also be holding their AGM via zoom on Saturday May 29th, 2021 from 9:00 AM until noon.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) and end of season celebration: We are a little “zoomed” out and hoping to have an in-person AGM and end of season celebration. We will wait for warmer weather and perhaps choose an outdoor location, such as Bowness Park, hopefully in mid-May, when it is safe to do so.

Grants: CSSA has been fortunate enough to receive almost $20,000 in grants from the Alberta government relaunch grant program. This will help offset our delayed casino fundraiser, which was originally scheduled for the summer of 2021.

Assistant Technical Director position: As part of succession planning, CSSA has posted a term part-time Assistant Technical Director position. The posting closes April 30, 2021 and can be found separately in the News section.

Oakley promotion: The Oakley store manager at Chinook Mall is offering 25% off eyewear and 40% off accessories from April 15 to April 25, 2021. Sign up to be an MVP at: www.oakley.com/en-us/mvp-loyalty-program
