ABLT Update – New Date: February 12-13, 2022

The Meet Registration for February 12th -13th has been revised and is open until midnight on February 1st.  The meet announcement has been revised (deadline for registration, distances for Juniors, etc.).  Please see below.

What does this mean for those already registered?

· If you are planning to attend ABLT on Feb. 12-13 – do nothing.  Currently registered skaters will receive an updated confirmation email.

· If you can no longer attend or wish to participate in ABLT:

Please email president@calgaryspeedskating.ca  and info@calgaryspeedskating.ca (our Office Manager) by February 1st to request a full refund (less Ice Reg Fees of $5.13) and provide the following info:

  • Please identify your skater(s) full name and registration category (1, 2 or 3)
  • You or your skater will be scratched from ABLT and a refund will be processed in IceReg.

Did not register yet?

Registration is now open and you can still register until midnight on February 1st in IceReg.  Note that registrations will be capped at 200 skaters:

Optional 3,000m (women) and 5,000m (men) for Group 1 (if time permits)

For those skaters registered in Group 1, there is an optional 3,000m (women) and 5,000m (men), limited to 2 quads (or 8 skaters in each race).  If you are interested in participating in this event, please email president@calgaryspeedskating.ca before February 1st.  If more than 8 skaters register, it will be on a first come, first served basis.

Refunds for Skaters due to event cancellation

Should ABLT be canceled due to COVID or by requirement of the University of Calgary, we will automatically process full refunds (less Ice Reg Fees of $5.13) for all registered skaters in IceReg.  The ability to proceed is dependent on University approval for the Oval to be open for regular business and competitions. Given the current pandemic circumstances, this competition remains subject to change or cancellation.

Current situation at the Oval

As of January 19, 2022, CSSA has been able to return to the Oval for training.  The Oval continues to work with the University to gain approval for phased re-opening to sport partners and the general public on or after January 29, 2022.

Rocky Mountain House Meet

Unfortunately, the new ABLT meet date competes with the Rocky Mountain House (RMH) meet on Saturday February 12.  We strongly encourage skaters not attending ABLT to support the RMH meet.  It is a great short-track meet, perfect for the development of skaters.  It is important that this event also be successful and well attended.
