Important Information
The inaugural Alberta Provincial Championships are going to be held March 7 – 9 at the Olympic Oval.
The CSSA Selection Committee completed developing their criteria after Debby Fisher’s RUFast and have since sent out invitations based on the following criteria:
SKATER ELIGIBILITY
CSSA skaters will be considered eligible to quality for the 2025 Provincial Championships if they meet all of the following criteria:
- Are registered as CSSA members for the 2024-2025 season
- Are registered as SSA members for the 2024-2025 season
Skaters who are eligible to qualify for the 2025 Provincial Championships will qualify for Provincial Championships under the system described under “Skater Rankings” below.
DIVISION ALLOCATION
CSSA has been allocated 75 spots in the 2025 Provincial Championships across all skater age groups.
To ensure even opportunity for skaters from all age groups, the number of CSSA spots for each skater age group is determined proportionally by the number of skaters that competed in provincial competitions in the 2024-2025 season. The following table shows how many spots are allocated to CSSA skaters in each age group:
Age Group | Gender | Allocated Spots in Provincial Championships |
Junior (16+) | Female | 2 |
Male | 3 | |
Neo-Junior (14-15) | Female | 5 |
Male | 5 | |
Youth (13) | Female | 2 |
Male | 5 | |
Youth (12) | Female | 5 |
Male | 5 | |
Youth (11) | Female | 3 |
Male | 4 | |
Club Skater (10) | Mixed | 9 |
Club Skater (9) | Mixed | 11 |
Club Skater (8) | Mixed | 6 |
Club Skater (7) | Mixed | 5 |
Club Skater (6) | Mixed | 5 |
If an age category does not fill its allocated spots, available spots will be awarded in the order that they appear in the above table (i.e., Junior Female would receive the first extra spot, Junior Male would receive the second extra spot, etc.).
SKATER RANKINGS
Skaters who are eligible to qualify will be ranked within the categories shown in Section 4. Skaters will be ranked on 2024-2025 season best times at SSA or SSC sanctioned competitions using the distances shown in the table below:
Age Group | Ranking Distance |
Junior (16+) | 500m (111m track) |
Neo-Junior (14-15) | 500m (111m track) |
Youth Skaters (11-13) | 400m (100m track) |
Club Skaters (6-10) | 400m (100m track)* |
*If allocated spots remain after ranking club skaters by their 400m times, the remaining spots will be filled by ranking the remaining skaters based on their 200m times.
If allocated spots remain in an age group after all skaters have been ranked by the applicable ranking distance for that age category, any remaining eligible skaters will be selected by random lottery.
