Summer Dryland Program Information

Different groups for the Summer Dryland Program are listed below. Details for each group can be viewed by clicking on the arrow. To register on RAMP, click on the button below.

Full Session and Spring (May / June ) Registration ends on April 30, 2016 May 6, 2016.
Summer registrations (July / August) will continue till Mid June.

ACTIVE Start and FUNDAMENTALS
A series of 1 day mini-camps led by certified NCCP Level 1 and/or Level 2 coaches.

These camps provide the basis for multi-skill activity and a sound base for continued involvement in the sport of speed skating.

The program activities are set up to start as a group warm-up, learn to run and then a rotated group of activities (stations) that incorporate the FUNdamentals of Agility, FUNdamentals of Balance, and the FUNdamentals of Coordination.

A minimum of 10 participants is required for each date.

2 Day Program (L2T/T2T)

This program will be lead by an NCCP Level 3 Speed Skating Coach and a NCCP Level 4 certified Multi-sport coach, Tracey Hillis.

Drop-in capability will be available for any of the sessions. See table below for costs.

On-ice session drop-in fees DO NOT include entrace to oval. Entrance to the oval must be paid at the oval front desk.

The June prices include the cost of inline skating.

The July and August prices include the cost of the Oval ice pass.  Skate rental is NOT included, if you require skates, please remember to include this in your registration.

A minimum of 10 participants is required to run the sessions.

Program Description:

The 2 day a week program is for those participants who are new to summer conditioning programs.

The program is slated to run from June 5th, 2016 to September 2nd, 2016.

The basic components of the program are as follows:

  • General conditioning.
  • Speed skating specific technical training.
  • On ice sessions (Long Track and Short Track) in July and August.
  • The program consists of an introduction to physical literacy, general training and conditioning and sport specific technical training in a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
  • The program will include sessions on leadership, nutrition and goal setting.
  • Runs Mondays and Wednesdays.
 
Start Time:   6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  
Location:   Various Locations (Olympic Oval, Nose Hill Park).

The 3 day a week program are for those that have 1 – 2 years of previous experience with summer conditioning programs. The program is slated to run from June 5th, 2016 to September 2nd, 2016.

The basic components of the program are as follows:

  • General conditioning.
  • Speed skating specific technical training.
  • On ice sessions (Long Track and Short Track) in July and August.
  • The program consists of conditioning, sport specific technical work, as well as cycling, and inline skating.
  • The program will include sessions on leadership, nutrition, goal setting.
  • Runs Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays.
 
Start Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Various Locations (Olympic Oval, Nose Hill Park).

Program Description:

The 4 day a week program is recommended for skaters moving from T1 into the T2 skating group next season. The program is slated to run from May 16th, 2016 to September 2nd, 2016.

The basic components of the program are as follows:

  • General conditioning.
  • Speed skating specific technical training.
  • On ice sessions (Long Track and Short Track) in July and August.
  • The program consists of conditioning, sport specific technical work, as well as cycling (road and mountain biking), hiking, and inline skating.
  • The program will include sessions on leadership, nutrition, goal setting.
  • Runs Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Saturday/Sunday mornings.
Strength Training Option:

Participants 13 years and older can optionally register for a strength training program at WinSport (led by strength coaches from WinSport). Strength training will occur on Tuesdays at WinSport.

T2T

A 4 day a week program with one day of strength training is available for T2T at WinSport (led by strength coaches from WinSport). This program is led by Brock Miron and Aaron Clarke and is meant for skaters preparing to move into high performance skating programs in the Fall (T3’s).

The program is slated to run from May 16th, 2016 to September 2th, 2016.

The July and August prices includes cost of the Oval Ice pass.  Skate rental is NOT included, if you require skates, please remember to include this in your registration.

A minimum of 10 participants is required to run the sessions, with a maximum of 15 participants.

Program Description:

The basic components of the program are as follows:

  • May, June, July: Sports specific technical training.
  • July and August: On-ice sessions (Long Track and Short Track).
  • General Conditioning.

Runs Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays for dryland (location TBA).

Strength training on Tuesdays at WinSport.

This program is for anyone over the age of 15 who is looking to prepare for the 2016/17 speed skating season. The training program is designed to improve your aerobic and anaerobic training systems, strength, balance, agility, technical skating ability and your flexibility. The training plans will include biking, running, circuit training, and skating imitations with an option for weight training for those of you who have access to a gym.

The program is slated to run from May 1st, 2016 to September 30th, 2016.
