Speed, agility, strength, endurance and determination. These are the hallmarks of Speed Skating, whether, the speed, endurance and determination of a long track race, or the speed, agility, strength, technique and strategy in a short track race. CSSA has programs at all levels – from the very young (ages 6+) to the young at heart (seniors/masters), whether just learning how to skate, or are an elite-level competitive athlete vying for a position on the provincial or national level. All of this, in a fun and safe environment, encouraging team work and the individual pursuit of being your best. Interested in being side-by-side with Olympic Athletes? Then come out and join us.

Long Track

Long track is generally practiced outdoors in Canada…however, here in Calgary, with the Olympic Oval, CSSA provides the training opportunity in a warm, sheltered environment. The Oval has been host to the Olympic Games, World Championships and World Cups.

Short Track

Short tracking speed skating was started in Canada, and continues to be dominated by Canadians. Short track was first introduced into the Olympic Games as a demonstration sport in the 1988 Olympics, here in Calgary. It became an official medal sport at the next winter Olympics (1992) in Albertville.
